A small and highly specialist domestic abuse charity based in north Surrey is seeking a Finance Manager for a permanent, part-time role.
The charity provides outreach and services in the North Surrey area to support those affected by domestic abuse. Due to the nature of the charity’s focus this post is restricted to female applicants in
accordance with Schedule 9 (part 1) of the Equality Act 2010.
The role reports directly to the CEO, and you will work closely with a newly appointed Business Manager to provide a high level of operational and strategic financial advice. You will also be responsible for running the day-to-day financial operations of the charity as the role is a sole-charge/stand-alone post.
The charity has an income of around £700k per annum and around 16 staff. The position offered is a permanent post for 2 days per week, and the salary offered is up to £45,000 FTE per annum (£18,000 for 2 days). The charity’s office is based in Walton-on-Thames, Surrey – and while the role can me mainly home-based/remote, there is the expectation to visit the office occasionally – around 1-2 times per month.
The charity is at an exciting time of growth, and this is a newly created position.
The role will involve:
Financial Accounting
1. preparation of statutory financial statements, the Annual Report and the Impact Report each year including all liaison with external auditors
2. managing the payroll processing for the team and liaising with third party payroll provider each month
3. managing the annual renewal of the charity’s insurance policies, including maintaining a register of fixed assets
4. managing bank accounts and maintaining financial controls, developing policies to support the charities progress.
Management Accounting
1. collating and consolidating statistical and financial reports from three partner charities with the main charity within Excel to prepare funding reports to external stakeholders
2. Preparing financial reports for external stakeholders, involving consolidation with three partner charities
3. preparing quarterly management accounts and reports to trustees
4. monitoring and reporting on the use of restricted grant income
5. preparing cash flow forecasts and prudent management of cash flow
Financial Strategic Management
1. support the business manager as she develops the financial strategic direction of the charity to maintain its financial resilience
2. advising on all financial matters
Candidate requirements:
-Qualified or part-qualified ACCA, CIMA or ACA accountant
-Previous experience of managing the finances of a similar sized organisation – ideally in a sole-charge/stand-alone capacity
-Experience in the preparation of financial statements and managing the year end audit process
-Skilled in preparing management accounts, budgets and forecasts
-Demonstrable experience of balancing detailed numerical, hands-on finance responsibilities with higher level strategic financial input to CEO and Board
-Experience with Quickbooks or a similar cloud-based system useful
-Prior experience with charity sector finance strongly advantageous
-Ability to work with kindness, honesty and integrity at all times in line with the charity’s ethos
