Cambridge Students' Union is seeking an experienced finance professional to join its Board as an External Trustee.
Representing more than 27,000 students across the University of Cambridge, Cambridge SU is a vibrant, student-led charity that exists to ensure students are represented, supported and empowered throughout their university experience.
This is an opportunity to use your financial expertise to make a meaningful difference while gaining valuable governance experience within a well-established and influential charity.
The Role
As External Trustee (Finance), you will chair the Finance Sub-Committee and provide strategic oversight of the organisation's finances, risk management and long-term sustainability. Working alongside student leaders, fellow trustees and the senior leadership team, you will help ensure the charity remains financially robust and well governed.
We Are Particularly Interested in Hearing From Individuals With Experience In:
• Charity SORP accounting
• Financial leadership, governance and risk management
• Income generation within charities, membership bodies or higher education organisations
• Strategic financial planning and organisational development
• Senior leadership, board-level experience, coaching or mentoring
Previous trustee experience is welcome but not essential. Training and support will be provided.

Commitment
The role involves approximately:
• 5 Board meetings per year (a mix of online and in-person meetings in Cambridge)
• Up to 5 Finance Sub-Committee meetings per year
• Occasional ad hoc support around key financial activities such as the annual audit
Reasonable travel and other expenses will be reimbursed.
