Fractional Finance Director
Location: Remote (UK)
Contract Type: Part-time – on an ongoing fractional basis – 4 days per month (preference for 1 day per week)
Salary: £280 - £325 per day to be billed directly to the client

Our client is a user-led national mental health charity working to redistribute power and resources across grassroots communities. They're seeking a Fractional Finance Director to lead their financial strategy and support their mission to amplify the voices of people with lived experience of mental distress and trauma.
The role is to replace the existing long-standing Fractional Finance Director. You will be joining a small charity with 6 staff, reporting to the CEO, and working closely with the Operations Manager. Their income comes from a range of trusts and foundations.
Position Overview
You'll provide strategic financial leadership to a membership organisation supporting 5,000+ individuals and community groups. Your role is crucial in enabling the charity to manage multiple funding streams, support trustees and project managers, and ensure financial sustainability whilst advancing their social justice mission.
This position is fully remote from within the UK.
Responsibilities
• Produce management accounts including balance sheet, cashflow and restricted fund analysis
• Present financial reports at remote board meetings with written narratives
• Support the CEO with budget creation for funding bids and grant reporting
• Produce statutory accounts compliant with SORP requirements
• Co-ordinate budget-setting and reforecasting to year end across multiple funds
• Check payroll and enter salary journals across different funding streams
• Assist project managers and hosted projects with budget management
• Advise operations team on bookkeeping accuracy and month-end processes
Requirements
• Qualified accountant (CIMA, ACCA , ACA or AAT considered) with minimum five years' experience
• Proven experience leading charity finance departments
• Demonstrated expertise producing SORP-compliant statutory accounts
• Experience managing accounts for multiple funding streams
• Proficiency with Quickbooks or Xero accounting software
• Track record supporting trustees, bookkeepers and non-finance specialists
• Comfortable working remotely with asynchronous team collaboration
• Strong understanding of charity finance and restricted fund management
