Part-Time Finance Assistant - Student Union
Location: South-East London (onsite)
Contract Type: Temporary for approximately 6 months
Hours: 2 days per week – ideally Tuesdays and Thursdays
Salary: £12.21 p/hr

They serve as the heart and voice of their student membership, supporting hundreds of volunteers and student-led campaigns across academic, social, political, environmental and economic issues. Position Overview
As a Part-Time Finance Assistant, you'll provide essential support to the finance department, maintaining accurate financial records and systems that underpin the organisation's operations. You'll work both independently and collaboratively, handling accounts payable processes, cash management from commercial outlets, and filing systems. Your work directly supports the organisation's ability to fund student campaigns and representation services, making a tangible difference to student life and wellbeing.
Responsibilities
• Maintain the accounts payable system weekly, processing purchase invoices, expense claims and credit card transactions
• Count and deposit weekly revenue from commercial outlets, preparing cash for collection and deposit slips
• Establish and deactivate staff accounts on finance systems as required
• Review supplier statements and liaise with budget holders to identify and resolve missing invoices
• File weekly purchase ledger reports and maintain accurate financial filing systems
• Dispense petty cash and float requests, flagging concerns to the Finance Manager
• Assist in developing new financial systems and controls to improve processes
• Support key events throughout the year including Welcome and elections
• Undertake general administration tasks including typing, filing and photocopying as directed
Requirements
Essential:
• Previous work experience dealing with money, ideally in a similar Finance Assistant/Officer role
• Excellent written and oral communication skills with ability to explain information clearly
• IT competent with working knowledge of Microsoft Office, particularly Excel
• Desire to work within a democratic, officer-led environment
• Desire to work within an organisation serving a culturally diverse membership
